About Sugarcats
Sugarcats was founded in 1998 by a group of people who all had diabetic cats, but had a slightly humorous outlook on the illness. During a discussion about home glucose testing, someone mentioned that it was illegal in the U.K. to draw a cat's blood unless you were a veterinarian. Someone else expressed concern that the people who were testing their diabetic cat's blood could be arrested, and shortly thereafter, a tongue-in-cheek effort to create an underground railroad was formed, with the cats assuming pseudonyms to protect the guilty.
After being told that feline diabetes was no laughing manner, the Sugarcats.com web site was created. The initial theme of cats on secret missions stuck.
Over the years, we've lost many cats and some good friends. But we've gained many more. The goal of Sugarcats is to build a community of people who love their diabetic cats. One that exists to help and to support, but to also allow you to smile from time to time.
