You people are the best!!!
To everyone who welcomed me in and made me feel so "at home", thank you!
To everyone who held my hand for the past 2 months, thank you!
To everyone who took that scared newbie and turned him into a confident bean, who taught me not to be afraid of the dire beasties, thank you!
To everyone who gave me good advice and helped me to understand what was going on every time I had a question, thank you!
To everyone who encouraged me to visit FDMB so that I could learn so much, thank you! (I've become quite the little poster over there of late). I'm doing my best to be kindler and gentler :)
To all of the sugarcats who showed Bob how to train me, a huge THANK YOU!
(anyone got a tissue, I'm leaking here..)
Today marks my dear un-sweet Bob's 14th day without the juice! I just tested him (got a 57), and yesterday I finally got a blood ketone meter and tested him (.2).
Right now he's laid out on the floor feeling not so fat, but stuffed, and really really happy, wondering what he did so special that he got a spoonful of food and TWO shrimp after just one little pokey-poke in the ear. (And it isn't even close to fudz tyme!)
I wanted y'all to be the first ones to hear this GREAT news, but today, I guess my boy can be called OTJ!!!!
From the bottom of my heart, bless you all.
Love,
Carl and Bob in SC

That's wonderful!!!!! Woo hoo! You did a fabulous job. My Saja was only diabetic for 2 months, as well, before he went into remission. His diabetes never came back. I couldn't be happier for you both.
Don't leave us! We still need you here ... um, for the partees.
Carl,
Glad you're part of the family!!!!!
Before I retired, Sugarcats was my homepage at work. It probably looked like I brought it up a billion times/day.
Hey, I DID!
Well,
things are still looking good. 10 more dsys have gone by and I've been random testing. The highest number Bob has shot me is 79, but he's been pretty much living in the 60's! Do you ever get to a point where you don't fear the meter?
Carl
Congratulations again.
Carl, this is great news. I hope that these numbers continue forever. Perhaps you can get the testing down to once a week, then maybe once every other week. If you did see his numbers begin to climb again, I'd contact the vet first to ensure that insulin is needed and how much he'd need. It sure does sounds like you have this under control and are now thee expert around here. I haven't seen many remissions during my experience with diabetes, but they can recover. My vet told me that when Saja was first diagnosed, and I didn't believe it.
I've made many good friends through Sugarcats during Saja's diabetes and through the rest of his life. Some of whom I have actually met. And it's been more than 10 years. Who knew that a cat could bring so many people together to form lasting friendships. It's special.
Thanks for the update.
Sharon
Wonderful news, Carl! Wishing you both a long and happy life together,

Hi Carl, I'm the newbie here. Just curious-what kind of meter are you using? My vet is insisting that I buy a veterinary meter, but as a diabetic myself there are many meters in my house. I know there are no formal studies comparison on results. i have offered
to do a comp study with my vet-his meter vs. mine and he doesn't seem interested. What do you suggest. I love sugercats, never felt so welcome anywhere.
I found that One Touch Ultra was brilliant and so easy to use that even my husband could do it.
I dont think that comparisons between meters matter. Use whichever you are hasppy with and stick to it. A change of one or two points wont matter, its big jumps or big dips that need attention! Just keep a chart and a day or so before the vet visit do a curve.
When the "Vet meters" first came available some on FDMB tried them and foun d that they were just an expensive toy which was no improvement on standard meters!
Mary,
Hi Abbie
That is a fabulous update! Long may the h*n*ym**n continue!
Heeee heeeee heeee, Jojo!!
